Euskal Kantak was born from a simple conviction: that the songs of Euskal Herria belong to everyone who wants to sing them — and that understanding the words is part of the joy.
Basque — euskara — is one of the oldest languages in Europe, with no known relatives. For centuries its songs have carried the memory of the Basque Country: its mountains and ports, its work and its longing, its resistance and its celebrations.
But if you weren't raised with the language, those songs can feel just out of reach. You can hum the melody of Txoria txori without ever knowing it speaks of a bird, of freedom, of love that will not cage what it loves. We built Euskal Kantak to close that gap — to put the original lyrics and their meaning side by side, so anyone can sing along and understand every word.
